A Surreal Day Out

Dalí & Friends

Museum=Kid Boredom Zone?  Think again.

Here’s an alternative route for a fun weekend with the little buggers, that starts all too well and ends up with crisis management, should you need it.

First stop, Dalí Exhibition at Sakıp Sabancı Museum.  Opening on Sat., 20 Sept., it’ll prove that those headless dinosaurs skipping ropes that the junior’s been drawing for a while, are actually signs of genius.  ‘New Design Animals’ at SSM is but one of a well-thought series of workshops for kids aged 4-17.  They take place everyday except Mondays during the exhibition, and you have to call to book a place.  (Sakıp Sabancı Cad., 42, Emirgan.  muze.sabanciuniv.edu.  Call Söz Danışmanlık at 0216 367 8437 for workshops).   Can’t make it?  At least buy this wonderful kiddie book: Dali and the Path of Dreams by Anna Obiols and Subi.

Next up, Johnny Rockets.  No, not a museum on American culture, but a new hangout (and a welcome relief) for families with kids.  OK-it’s not the epitome of chic. But if you want a good burger and fries/onion rings and a REAL milk shake (not just shaken milk), this is the place to go. (Cevahir Shopping Mall Top Floor, Büyükdere Cad., 22, Şişli.  0212 380 0295.  johnnyrockets.com).

After all this excitement, too bad that your little angels are getting tired and winding you up for a major crisis.  Take a deep breath and speed dial ParentFOCUS.  Learn how to manage those tantrums (theirs and yours) at a special session taking place on Sat., 20 Sept. between 10 a.m.-1 p.m.  (Lilliput Çocuk Evi & Cafe.  Cevdetpaşa Cad., 31/1, Bebek.  0212 263 7394.  lilliput.com.tr.)

That should help your angel-turned-devil get back to normal…
