Do They Know It’s…

Fathers Day

Dear Son/Daughter, Your mother and I enjoyed your last letter. Of course, we were much younger then, and more impressionable. Love, Dad.”

Hmmm, sounds like you’ve neglected your old man lately, huh?

Fathers Day is a bit like the ugly duckling in the family: we know it exists, but, as the actual day approaches, we try to pretend it doesn’t (at least compared to all the hype around Mothers Day).

This year do something amazing and show your Dad, father-in-law, uncle or whatever how much you care.  Here’s our secret list of chic little gifts which no one else has:

For the man who likes to smell nice, nothing beats the discreet elegance of Isfarkand by Perfume Ormonde Jayne: an uncomplicated peppery heart, with a mandarin, lime, and bergamot top note and a cedar, vetiver and moss base.  (Guys at Wallpaper magazine swear by it.)

Remember how your Dad cried when you gave him the crooked photo album made all by yourself as a first grader?  Even the toughest male breed would have their kees shaken when presented with something handmade; which is why it’s ‘handy’ to know the secret online shopping site Etsy.  Example? We loved this hat.

So he has a serious fashion sense (or non at all)?  No problem.  Give him men’s fashion bible, Dressing the Man: Mastering the Art of Permanent Fashion by Alan Flusser.

What about the host with the most?  He thinks he has EVERYTHING, but not this: An OMAS limited edition pen (Arte Gioia, Nispetiye Cad. Akmerkez, Etiler.  0212 282 19 01-02).  Check out the Samo edition named after Greek and Turkish islands off Aegean Sea.

Or just plant an iris, or his favourite flower.  In his memory…

All in all, buy your Dad whatever you like this year, but no Darth Vader cufflinks.  Please.

Fathers Day is Sun., 15 June.
