Hunters & Gatherers
Mavra Design Store & Café
Sometimes you wanna’ go
Where everybody knows your name…
Mavra, a brand new café which’s just opened on a cool side street in Galata, is just that kind of place.
A design store-cum-workshop space, it’s already rumoured to be a ground for hunting (and gathering, since its devotees prefer to hold their meetings there) for the likes of creative types who live and work in the area.
With its fresh breakfast & lunch menu, home-made cakes, cookies and delicious coffee accompanied by the throaty melodies of Nina Simone, the place reeks of style. Best of all, everything—from the cup you drink from, to the chair you sit on—is on sale.
Behind Mavra is the ceramics artist Yonca Akçay, who mixes work with pleasure effortlessly. Those who can’t believe their eyes (or nose, or tongue, or ears) seeing such a fine ambiance can wait till they actually ‘touch’ it, for Mavra’s soon starting its own ceramics, sculpture and toy workshops.
Sounds too good to be true (or ‘mavra’, as the name suggests)?
Mavra. Serdar-ı Ekrem Cad., 31/a (across from Doğan Apt.), Kuledibi-Galata. 0212 252 7488.
