Osman Can Özcanlı Designs
Kitchen accessories are often functional, boring and a bit smelly. Like your, well, never mind…
Osman Can Özcanlı, who was crowned last night as the first and brand new winner of British Council’s International Young Design Entrepreneur (IYDE) competition’s Turkish leg, looks set to change all that with his transparent toaster.
Sure to take pride of place in your home, this sleek beauty is no ordinary stuff: it allows you to see when the bread is toasted to your liking. (Or an end to dark-and-looking-like-stones-from-Mars slices of bread!)
Osman’s creative talent knows no boundaries, as proven by his Ozpack book carrier and origami DVD player, the latter of which won him a Bronze at the Industrial Design Excellence Awards back in 2005.
But the most curious of all is a deceptively simple pen he spotted while looking for inspiration. ‘Remove by Friction’ is the magical genie equivalent of pens: the writings disappear when exposed to heat and come back again in cold (like a fridge?)
Make sure you don’t attempt to write in your diary with it next time you hit the Sahara Desert.
See Osman at ozpack.com or email him at oz(at)inventables(dot)com.
