Letter from NY

Pixie Market

Like the style of indie princess Chloë Sevigny, but don’t know how to pull that look? (Or afford it, for it’s bloody expensive to look smartly dishevelled).

Meet two pixies who may help: Gaelle Drevet and Magda Pietrobelli.

Inspired by London markets like Portobello and Spitalfields, the long-time friends and fashion adventurers set up Pixie Market a few years ago.  True to its name and the owners’ personal style that’s playful and carefree, Pixie gives an audience to an array of MySpace resident indie designers.

The labels stocked in three Pixie locations in NY, LA and most recently in (surprise!) London read like an international roll call of adventurous fashion college students with lots of promise:  Aussie brand Mogil, Maria Bonita from Brazil, and Aslı Filinta from Turkey, to name a few.

The cozy NY store, with its quirky SALE sign made of white Legos currently on display, is as much inspiring as the eccentric off shoulder designs by Margo London they stock (and have quickly sold out).

Check them out in-store or buy online.  And just hope that Gaelle and Magda will one day decide to sprinkle their pixie dust here in Istanbul, too.
Pixie Market.  100 Stanton Street, New York.  +1.212.253 0953.  Two other stores in LA and London.  pixiemarket.com.
