Restless in Istanbul

JANERA Global Nomad Dinner

You thought ‘cliché’ was a suburb of Paris and ‘Pocari Sweat’ was how Japanese people called their bodily fluids after exercising…

…until you became an expat and embarressed yourself countless times in front of the locals in Paris and Tokyo.

Being an expat in a foreign country can have many ups and downs, and no one knows this better than Janera Soerel, founder/editor of JANERA.com, an online social network for global nomads.

A Curaçaon by birth, Janera was raised in the Caribbean by Surinamese parents, went to school in New York, and worked as an investment banker in Italy and The Netherlands (that’s almost half the world covered.)

Fluent in five languages, Janera now runs the global community website by the same name and travels the world doing Global Nomad Salons; one of which will take place in Istanbul tomorrow.

Hosted by JANERA.com and Istanbul-based cultural writer Anastasia M. Ashman, coeditor of Tales from the Expat Harem, experts like the CEO of Mavi Jeans and the country manager of Korn/Ferry headhunters will guide a discussion on the evening’s topic: “Turkey’s East/West Identity”.

Still wondering about ‘Pocari Sweat’?  Go and check it out here.

Global Nomad Dinner Salon starts at 7 p.m. on Thu., 26 June at Four Seasons Sultanahmet (Tevkifhane Sok. 1, Sultanahmet.  0212 638 8200).  To book a place, email to RSVP@Janera.com, or visit janera.com.
