Books or courses on self-help are often like plastic surgery or poodle pampering: you either love it or loathe it. 

Aralik is a young institute aiming to breathe fresh air into the subject of changing behaviour and developing new skills.  At their venue in Tesvikiye, world famous painter Ismail Acar runs regular seminars on painting, while novelist Pinar Kur teaches a wonderful course on creative writing for beginners.  Classes run weekly, fees are donation-based, and part of the proceeds go to charity.  

Other courses that open new doors include life coaching by a theologist-turned-sociologist, and family & relationship workshops run by respectable social psychologists.  There’s even a class on introduction to philosophy.
