You Lookin’ At Me?

Istanbul, Photographs by Boogie

What’s more shocking (or normal, as times and tastes have really changed) than idiots on motorbikes in the streets of Istanbul, sporting WWII German soldier-style helmets?

A small child inspecting a real gun in his hand, apparently…

This and other unseen photos by Brooklyn-based Serbian-born photographer, Boogie, who has released the second volume in his city series entitled ‘Istanbul’, is sure to shake you to the roots.

The book is a result of Boogie’s one week here and the photos he shot 15 hours a day. It’s 96 pages of beautiful black and white photography that give a starkly honest and transparent look at the feel and nature of Istanbul.

Apart from the curious child, there’s a line of passport-size portraits of men (mostly moustached and from what looks like a photo shop’s display); a car lifted from a crash site; a young man showing his tatoos, and many more shots with a bizarre mix of aesthetics and voyeurism.

Brutally frank, and sometimes, frankly, brutal.
Istanbul, Photographs by Boogie out now.  Book and t-shirts featuring images from it available from upperplaygroundstore.com.
