Act Your Age!
Istanbul International Children’s Festival
While your little princess dreams about camping outside the cinema the night before High School Musical 3 is released, there’s Istanbul International Children’s Film Festival to keep her amused. Here’s our pick…
The Fox and The Child (7 years+) by French director Luc Jacquet is a highly-acclaimed movie about a little girl and a fox cub that befriends her.
Alice, Upside Down (10 years+) is a comedy that stars Alyson Stoner (of Zac and Cody fame—your kid’ll know; don’t ask) as Alice trying to adapt to a new life after passing away of her mother. Mozart in China (9 years+) from Austria by Henry Selick is about a puppet that comes alive and makes a secret trip to shadow theatres in China.
Of the short feature films, most are without dialogue, so even the youngest kids will have a laugh: There’s wonderfully warm clay animation Alicia Va En El Coche (3 years+) by Vivienne Barry Onfray from Chile, which’s based on a traditional Latino-American children’s song whereby Alicia visitsher father in different vehicles. Cracks (9 years+) by Aage Rais-Nordentoft from Denmark tells the story of a house with cracking walls and a girl trying to navigate in an adult world. The festival also shows short films submitted by Turkish children aged 6-15.
Istanbul International Children’s Film Festival runs between Fri., 31 Oct.-Thur., 13 Nov. Click on iicff.com for tickets and festival programme.
