Cooking Up A Storm

Food Workshops

You thought $1000-a bottle Krug‘s and fancy dinners were the norm…

…until the credit crunch came.

Boys and girls, put on your aprons and start learning the delights of home cooking; for not one, not two, but three exciting workshops are beginning after the holidays.

Istanbul Food Workshop is a delightful attempt to teach you, the can’t-even-boil-an-egg type cooking virgin, all about Turkish cuisine.  The classes take place in the historically alluring Fener district, which adds to the charm of the whole thing.

Or hang out in Beyoğlu at Leb-i Derya‘s cooking classes by the wonderfully talented Gamze İneceli.  Each session starts with a shopping trip to the fish market/butcher’s/grocer’s under the guidance of Gamze, who explains all the ingredients before returning to Leb-i to start cooking them with you.

And finally, an all-time favourite, The House Café starts workshops at its brand new İstiklal branch.  Alongside celebrity chef appearances and wine/coffee/olive oil tasting days, you get to go behind the counter and learn the secrets behind that famous home-made The House pasta.

Credit maybe crunching, but your food doesn’t have to suffer from it.  Just don’t forget to ‘clean up your act’ afterwards.
