Down in the Jungle
Wild Web Woods E-game
You lost count of the number of times you caught your kids playing dodgy online games: ‘Is that what you call a “game”? It’s more like a scene from Alien IV.’ Or about sharing the computer: ‘No, that’s mummy’s computer, and no, you can’t play shopping with it.’
The folks at Council of Europe were apparently having a slow day and decided to do something about internet security for young children (just like they did for the size of swings or the length of slides in playgrounds around EU a few years back. Only this time, the results actually do work.)
Wild Web Woods, a new e-game developed by CoE for kids 3+, is secure, informative and, dare we say, rather fun. The aim is to get to an imaginary city called Kometa and to defeat various obstacles on the way. You get a token each of Info, Privacy, Security and Awareness every time you succeed at any stage (OK, that sounds patronising, but it’s internet basics, right?)
Offered in forteen languages (including Turkish), it’s free, absolutely safe and guarantees hours of entertainment even for that Grumpy in your brood.
While you snuggle up to the sofa with the latest copy of Vogue.
Available online at wildwebwoods.org.
