Electric Shock

Tamirane Café & Restaurant

Airport security and humour.  Plumbers and trustability. Dita and Marilyn.

Somethings in life just don’t mix well.  Then there are others that do (however awkward it may be); like Tamirane, a new eatery converted from an old and ugly power station workshop.

In line with the previous life of the space first as a water treatment centre, then as a repair shop for the massive electric power station that now became santralistanbul, Tamirane’s look is Eastern Europe industrial chic mixed with a heavy dose of 50’s furniture and unconventional pieces like an original dentist’s light.  The place is also meant to be a performance space for DJ’s; with lounge and nujazz completing the sleek atmosphere.

If you can drag yourself from admiring the 12-meter-high ceiling, the menu offers quite satisfying bites with cheeky names like ‘Tamirci Burger’ (meatballs sandwiched inside bread served with a tomato-pepper sauce).  There’s goat’s cheese salad for eternal dieters, and hoşmerim dessert for the traditionalists.

Thankfully the prices are much lower than what you get on your electricity bill every month.  Well…Eaters of the world, unite!
Tamirane.  santralistanbul, Kazım Karabekir Cad., 1, Eyüp.  0212 311 7309.  tamirane.com.
