The Works, “Objects of Desire” is a slightly deranged antique and flea market-find shop newly re-opened by one such veteran collector A. Karaca Borar.
An ultra colourful Cihangir art-world personality, his father was a violinist, and his mother the eccentric poet Sevim Burak.
Borar describes the place as carrying anything from “tin boxes to old wash machines to kitsch objects and 30’s erotic postcards” and warns that he behaves like Basil Fawlty of Fawlty Towers.
Yet, you may just as well find yourself serenaded by opera music, plied with a glass of wine, and sent home with a vintage designer bag for tenth of the original price.
As Basil would say: “Can we get you something else, sir? A tea cosy for your pepper pot perhaps?”
