Paper and Scissors Rock!
Paperfaces by Beril Öke Gülen
Dressing for hard times means spending your well-earned cash on something unique.
NOT using handkerchiefs as knickers, as suggested by Vivienne Westwood recently.
If you’ll ever buy one statement piece this season, make it a mini bolero from designer Beril Öke Gülen’s paperfaces label.
Beril was bitten by the creativity bug early on—she studied advertising and ceramics before finally settling on fashion design. A short stint at fashion’s archangel Bahar Korçan’s studio led her to set up her own label last year.
Her designs have a somewhat strong visual look to them. Go for one of her feminine frilled blouse for an instant chic uplift. Or get a pair of skin tight trousers with matador style ankle detail, combined with a sharp tailored white shirt. (Her muse for A/W 2009 collection named ‘Aristo K’ is none other than Karl Lagerfeld, the grand old duke of Chanel.)
Who says you’re not ‘cut’ from the same cloth as Kaiser’s own muse, the damn stylish looking Inès de La Fressange?
Available at Margarit’s Boutique (Sıraselviler Cad. 158, Cihangir. 0212 243 2660.) See the styles here.
