Pot’ty Training

Creative Ceramics Workshops

Demi Moore and Partick Swayze’s shenanagans over that potter’s wheel may have been voted the most romantic film moment.

But who cares about ghosts and stuff, when there are some really cool ceramics workshops run by very artistic women who’re willing to share.

Start with Gülistan Ertik.  A newcomer to the scene, her  studio is full of delicate pieces decorated with funky drawings of curious faces.  Equally comfortable with glass and ceramics, Gülistan’s ready to give you a hand, should you decide to create and boast about your own masterpieces to Mom for the upcoming M Day.  (Kurabiye Sok., Beyoğlu.  0537 720 6090).

Next up is Ezel Ağaoğlu, the grande dame of ceramics and a veteran teacher.  Having exhibited her works all around the world, she now tutors students from all ages in her own studio.  Call her at 0539 213 0831 for venue and schedule details.

Or meet İdil and Emi: the brains (and hands) behind Atölye 115, a workshop space buzzing with students young and old.  (Beyazgül Sok. 115/1, Arnavutköy.  0532 336 7030 or 0532 454 6209).

Too lazy to cross the bridge from the Asian side?  There’s Sibel and Gonca, who teach pottery in their wonderfully cozy studio called Patika (Bağdat Cad., 32/a, Kızıltoprak.  0216 345 6849).

M Day?  Oh, you know… The one that comes up every second Sunday of May and catches you unprepared every time.  This time you’re warned.
