Reşitpaşa Social Club

Mest Culinary Space Opens

Cooking workshop. Catering shop. Gourmet shop. Flower shop.

Like a gastronomic equivalent of the cult lifestyle store Colette in Paris, Mest is a new place for social gathering and everything to do with fine food.  Located in up and coming Reşitpaşa in Emirgan, and surrounded by beautifully arranged flowers by Avantgarde (which will also teach anyone interested how to arrange them so beautifully), the massive space allows parties of up to 250.

There are also cooking-realted activities for kiddies and wanna-be Jamie Olivers alike.  The place and its owner Can Ünsal (an offspring of gourmand Artun Ünsal and so no stranger to the game) knows no boundaries in tailor-made services: even a newly-wed wife who hasn’t a clue how to turn on that posh wedding present oven gets a chance.

Gourmet section at the front (traiteur—in case you didn’t know, ma cherie) sells cheese and Selatin’s award-winning olive oil. At such an innovative place, even the restaurant part doesn’t so much resemble a restaurant. There’s a menu du jour with a main dish (house specialties include duck confit), a soup, perhaps a dish of fresh pasta and of course dessert; notably, profiterol.

Aided by food writer mum Beyhan and the young chef Başak, Can also prepares food for home parties with a difference: French, Italian, Far East and anything in between is ‘catered’ for.  Plus, in the future they plan to add a ‘Plus’ section; whereby local cuisines such as Antep and Mardin will be tried and tested.

‘Mest’ification is guaranteed.
