Tales of Wanderlust

1001 Nights Tours

You read The Secret, yet are cluless as to why you’re still not the proud owner of that Ferrari, Birkin bag or the private island in Bora Bora.

Nothing wrong with a little bit of dreaming, but next time try Book of One Thousand and One Nights.  Or better, get yourself on a tour by the same name to see the fantasy lands.

Organised around the world famous book, the journey aims to demystify each tale told by Shehrazade at the relevant location where it takes place.  Jinns, ghouls, mermaids, talking serpents and other fantastic creatures mentioned in the tales are often discussed on the way.

Your guides in this spiritual journey include Özcan Yüksek (ATLAS magazine editor and author of Hakikatçı: Hayata ve Ölüme Dair, a wonderful book on the tales themselves); alongside nature veteran Güven Eken of Doğa Derneği, who’ll talk you through biogeography of the places visited, while professional tour guide and environmentalist Kunt Kuntasal will act as the official guide.

First leg of the tour includes Egypt—Cairo, Luxor, Esna, Fayyum and other cities—with more planned for India, Iran, Sri Lanka, Syria and Tibet throughout the year.

Still stuck with Ali Baba and Forty Thieves?  Time to add more stories to your repertoire…
The first 1001 Nights tour is organised by Doğa Turizm between 21-28 March to Egypt.  Call 0216 462 1731, or check out dogaturkiye.com for details.
