Things That Make You Go ‘Hmmm’
Building Idea Store & Food Lab
You and your wacky ideas go way back:
- a laser gun to kill mosquitos
- an athletic underwear made of discarded fish parts
- a weight loss programme through meditation
The problem is to figure out how to take your genius from zero to counting ‘zeros’, and that’s where Building, an idea engineering office-cum-concept store & eatery, comes in.
Three amigos (Sedef, Cenk and Serkan, a.k.a ‘mad scientists’) have recently joined forces to come up with the place, which boasts a creative office upstairs for your ideas, and an unusually long ladder-type communal table serving Barcelona-inspired tapas and other finger food downstairs.
The menu is as simple and experimental as the hard tile it’s written on—or the dangling from above cutlery to eat it with: Try sweet salmon (with honey, yoghurt and pomagranate molasses), raw meat on bread, or mouldy (as in Roquefort) cheesecake.
There’s also a section at the back selling young & hip designer clothing from Montse Ibáñez and Marta R. Gustems (both Spanish), designs by Lindos Ramos (Venezuelan) and Chloé Rufin (French, but based in Istanbul), and accessories and shoes from cool Turkish and other designers.
Unborn ideas turned into horrible crimes againts nature. Me like it!
